History of Amel

Amel’s story began when Henri Amel—who had experimented with polyester construction after seeing its use in WWII caissons—started producing durable composite sailboats in the early 1960s. He formally established Chantiers Amel in 1965, creating a yard dedicated to safe, comfortable, ocean‑going yachts designed for long‑distance cruising. Over the decades, Amel became known for its rugged GRP construction, watertight bulkheads, and thoughtful systems engineering, producing iconic models such as the Mango, Maramu, Santorin, and Super Maramu that earned a loyal global following.
