👉Big waves and one last big adventurous destination

It had been a while since we’d sailed far enough from land to switch off Starlink and properly disconnect from the world. There’s something about that moment — when the coast slips away behind you and the open sea takes over — that feels both freeing and slightly scary.

We weren’t entirely sure if heading to Corsica this late in the season was brave or slightly mad, but it was one last stop we really wanted to make. So we did what all sailors do: checked everything, watched the weather, checked it again… and then set off ready for the adventure..

One thing you learn quickly with sailing is that forecasts are never 100% reliable. Expect the unexpected. And the 2‑metre waves we hit early on certainly put that motto to the test. Novera was rolling, the sea was lively, and our commitment to the adventure was being thoroughly tested.

We still found moments to laugh. Without windscreen wipers, the cockpit windscreen becomes impossible to see through. Waves were regularly drenching both us and the glass in salt, so Tim — ever the problem‑solver — grabbed the cockpit shower and became 'the guy at the traffic lights', spraying down the windscreen between waves 😂. (He didn't get a tip though which seemed unfair haha).

Just standing upright felt like a core workout. Making lunch became an extreme sport. Thank heavens for wraps, mayo, and cooked chicken, not exactly Michelin‑star dining, but they are easy to eat on the move and kept us going.

Eventually, things shifted. We swapped helm watches, grabbed sleep whenever we could, and slowly the sea calmed enough for us to enjoy the rhythm of the passage. Then came the magic: a fiery sunset, a moonrise that lit the water silver, and a sunrise that felt like a reward for the night before.

And then the best sight of all. Corsica appearing ahead of us.

The dolphins we hoped to see did appear and were surfing the waves beside us, disappearing and reappearing as they raced past. Unfortunately I was clinging on for dear life as Novera rolled behind them, so there was absolutely no chance of getting a photo. But we’ve got the return journey to try again.

After a much‑needed snooze stop at anchor, we finally slipped into Calvi Port. Safe, tired, and proud. Another overnight passage under our belts! And this time I did not do a 360 on my watch or think the moon on the horison was a large ship in the distance! We sailed most of the way and once again Novera kept us safe. 💕

Calvi looks amazing so I cannot wait to explore but a shower some food that is not encased in a wrap and a chill first!
